eta's accreditation

Accreditation for Higher Education and Training
In accordance with the requirements of the Higher Education Act 101 (1997), eta is accredited by the Council on Higher Education (CHE).  eta offers accredited learning programmes that lead to level five qualifications in sport and fitness that are registered on the National Qualifications Framework (NQF).

Accreditation for further education and training
In accordance with the Further Education and Training Colleges Act, 2006 (Act No 16. of 2006) eta is accredited by Umalusi.  eta offers accredited learning programmes that lead to level four qualifications in sport and fitness that are registered on the National Qualifications Framework (NQF).

Accreditation for programmes approved by the SETA governing sport and fitness (THETA)
In accordance with Regulation 16 of the SAQA Act 58 1995, Exercise Teachers Academy (Pty) Ltd is accredited with THETA; accreditation number 613/P/000007/2004.  eta is thus able to provide level four and level 5 programmes for learnerships and skill programmes and is accredited by THETA (accreditation number 613/P/000007/2004).

Registration with Department of Education (for higher education and training)
Certificate No. 2001/HE07/006
eta (Exercise Teachers Academy PTY Limited) is registered as a private higher education institution in terms of Section 54 (1) (c) of the Higher Education Act, 1997 (Act No. 101), and Regulation 16 (4) (a) of the Regulations for Registration of Private Higher Education Institutions, 2002, to offer the registered higher education programmes listed below at the following sites of delivery; Cape Town, Durban, Johannesburg, Pretoria, Stellenbosch.

eta has applied for accreditation of the eta Bloemfontein campus and this application will be reviewed by the Higher Education Quality Control Committee in 2010.  If accreditation is granted, the eta Bloemfontein site will be included in the list of accredited sites on the Department of Education Registration Certificate for providers.

Registration with Department of Education (for further education and training)

eta (Exercise Teachers Academy PTY Limited) is provisionally registered as a private FET College in terms of Section 31 (3) of the Act and Regulation 12 (4)(b).  eta is able to offer further education programmes at the following accredited sites of delivery; Bloemfontein, Cape Town, Durban, Johannesburg, Pretoria and Stellenbosch.

Currently, eta is accredited to offer the following FET programme:

National Certificate: Sport, Recreation and Fitness Leadership, Level 4

eta has developed learning programmes to lead to the level four Further Education Training Certificates listed below.  Once accredited, eta hopes to offer learning programmes through learnerships for these level four qualifications:

FETC:  Fitness
FETC:  Sport Coaching
FETC:  Sport Administrator

Certificate of Achievement as an Institute of Occupational Excellence
eta was recognised by the Tourism, Hospitality and Sport Education and Training Authority (THETA) as an Institute of Occupational Excellence.  In accordance with the Department of Labour Guidelines, eta was awarded this certificate and the achievement is awarded from the ISOE start date of 01 October 2009 to the ISOE end date 30 September 2011.

Department of Sport and Recreation
To ensure that we meet the needs of sport and fitness in South Africa, eta is also a licensed service provider with SRSA (Sport and Recreation South Africa).  Our qualifications are internationally benchmarked against best practice in sport and fitness thus our graduates are able to find employment easily in South Africa and abroad.

International recognition
eta is accredited by the CYQ in the UK. This accreditation allows eta graduates to register with REPS in the UK, Australia, New Zealand and Europe. 

REPS
REPS (Register of Exercise Professionals); this is the register for qualified exercise professionals and the organization was launched in the UK. 

To work in the fitness industry in the UK, Europe and Australasia, you have to be a registered member of REPS.  eta qualifications are accredited by CYQ thus eta graduates are able to easily access the Register of Exercise Professionals if working overseas.  We are hoping to see REPS formed here in South Africa before the end of 2010 and eta, along with the major employers such as Virgin Active and Planet Fitness supports this initiative. 

APPETD Membership
eta is a member of APPETD (www.appetd.org.za) which is registered financial services provider representing members of the Association of Private Providers of Education, Training and Development (APPETD) in South Africa. APPETD works with private providers towards establishing and maintaining the highest standards of education and training throughout the industry.

Financial Surety
In accordance with the requirements of the Department of Education (Regulation, eta is a member of the Marsh Vikella Fidelity
Fund.  This fidelity fund ensures financial surety for its members. The purpose of the fund is to protect students in the unlikely event of providers not meeting their obligations to students.
