distance learning

Advantages of studying through eta distance learning
The advantages of correspondence studies through eta distance learning is flexibility; you can work in your own space and you don’t have to travel to a campus.  From 2011, we will offer four enrolment periods which are February, April, July and October; you can register and pay at any time but your course work will start in the months of February, April, July or October.
You receive ongoing assistance and support from our eta tutor via email or fax and you are able to contact your tutor in the same way.

What you need
To succeed with correspondence studies, you need to be hard working and self reliant.  You are encouraged to make consistent and regular contact with your tutor to enable you to receive the support you need.  Another vital part of eta Distance Learning is the experiential learning component.  This requires you to work in the field, shadowing, assisting and learning from other professionals.  It is also vital that you have access to a computer; you will need this for research, to contact your tutor and to be able to complete your tests and exams.  You need to have an email address, as well as a cell number so that we can contact you easily.
Whilst access to a computer is important, you can complete work neatly by hand if you do not have this facility.  However, because computer skills are a fundamental element of the qualification, it is important that you show your ability to operate a computer.

Payment options with enrolment
You have two payment options to choose from when enrolling for eta Distance Learning.  When you complete your registration form, you will select your payment option and will receive your eta study pack according to the payment selection. Check our course fees for details on this.

Course duration
You have one year to complete an eta Certificate or two years to complete your eta Diploma.

Study pack
Once you have paid the required amount relative to your chosen payment option, you will receive your eta manual, study guide and evidence portfolio in which you file your work.  The eta manual is your main learning resource.  The study guide provides you with instructions on learning activities that you need to complete, as well as recommended reading or research.  The study guide also provides you with your assessment instructions.  In addition there are forms and evidence checklists that may be relevant for your learning process.  Combining the completion of your learning activities, experiential learning in the field work and the help from your tutor will ensure your success with the eta distance learning experience.

Experiential learning and work place practical hours

It is essential that you complete your recommended experiential hours in the field.    Distance Learning students are expected to negotiate with different companies and communicate with professionals in the field.  This enables them to gain valuable experience and to log their practical hours; this is an essential component of your learning.
