REPS SA
Our previous newsletter informed you about pending fitness legislation which I said would not be “going away”. While I said it was not going away, it has not been published either. In fact, I hear it has gone back to the drawing board!
The good news is that South Africa now has a professional register of exercise professionals and REPS SA was launched here in April 2011. REPS SA has gathered so much momentum that is has exceeded its anticipated membership, according to Scott Schreuder, the REPS SA CEO.
There will be a link our website to REPS SA so you can stay informed and find out more about this professional register for exercise professionals in SA. I urge all qualified practitioners to join REPS. REPS’ aim is to get everybody registered - whether qualified or not and to then go about getting everybody up to the minimum standard that has been established by REPS internationally. To show our support for the register and our commitment to the profession, we are providing one year’s membership to REPS SA for all our graduating fitness students.
Scott Schreuder recently attended a ground-breaking meeting in Milan this year. This meeting consisted of all the REPS bodies from around the world and the aim of the meeting was to ensure that they could agree an international standard of exercise professionals internationally. REPS SA was part of this international body of fitness professionals and I am excited about the potential that this creates for you – our eta students and graduates.
