Hi Linda, Steve and Glennis,
The campus in JHB is absolutely fantastic! I have just completed the pilates course.

My lecturer was Hannes and because of his knowledge, dedication and passion i have been inspired to further my studies and will be doing the nutrition course next year.

I found the campus in JHB to be extremely professional and very well run, there were no delays or hiccups throughout the course and although i found some of the theory to be a bit challenging - Hannes was always available to answer questions and help wherever he could. Hannes is a master at putting things into layman's terms and his teaching style is relaxed and extremely professional.

I would like to thank both Hannes and Peter for such an enjoyable experience and mention that due to them, i now have a very small pilates studio and am teaching with complete confidence and thoroughly enjoying it!

Regards, Angela Van Niekerk

Dear Estelle

I have just completed my ETA course and must say that I would never have expected distance learning to be so enjoyable.

Having said that, I could never have done it without the help from Shannette. There were times when I felt that I could not cope due to work pressure and wanted to give up, then I would get such positive feedback from Shannnette, that I felt guilty for wanting to quit. Well, here I am, all done, with a good offer from Virgin Active - and on my way to what I am really passionate at doing. Shannette is truly a gem.

Kind regards
Feroza

Grant Lond
Grant completed his fitness qualification with eta in 1999. He is currently the Operations manager for Virgin Active in Fulham, Central London. Grant feels it is his eta qualification that directly contributed to his employment and for his promotion. In particular Grant felt that the practical hours requirement at eta puts it above any other learning provider

Carol Rickards
Carol completed the National Certificate: Fitness at the eta Durban Campus in 2007. Torn between specialising in Spinning and Pilates, both of which she enjoys, Carol decided that Pilates would offer a much more personal relationship with clients.
Under the tuition of James Raaff, she successfully completed the Fundamental Mat Course as an instructor in February 2008 and is now waiting to tackle the advanced exam. Several friends were persuaded to take classes whilst Carol was studying, so she could build up the required practical teaching hours. These classes were held in a dance studio that Carol was able to rent for a few hours a day. In early 2008, having spent some time considering her business plan and paying attention to such issues as client access and positioning, with some “first night nerves” Carol opened the Balance Pilates Studio on the Ridge at Umhlanga Rocks. Her first clients were those friends who had helped out with the training hours and who all decided that they wanted to continue.
The studio has become a promising business venture and Carol has successfully developed relationships with several like-minded practitioners, including two chiropractors (one of whom comments that his wife, who is a client of Carol’s, has noticeably improved her performance on their tandem bicycle since she began working with Carol!).
Her operating philosophy has been to keep classes as small as is financially viable in order to maintain the close personal attention and relationships that she enjoys with her clients. In this manner she has built a loyal and happy client base that experience the real life changing benefits that high quality Pilates training can facilitate and a highly supportive professional network that is certain to grow in the future.

My name is Nazeem Dollie and I'm an eta graduate (2003), having studied Personal Fitness Training as well as Aerobics. Just thought I'd write a letter of thanks firstly to the Sports Science Institute for having offered me a scholarship to study at eta, and also thanks to eta for what I've learned, because my qualification I gained, as well as my passion for fitness landed me a job in Dubai Media City with a company called Fitness First.

My flight, visa, accommodation and transport to and from work is paid for by the company, so I'm not paying for anything. The money is also really good and standard of living very high. So yeah, hope this gives all eta students some inspiration to go the distance! I'm just awaiting my visa to be sorted out, so as soon as that is done, I'll be out of here in a matter of weeks. The panel that interviewed me said that they believe I'll be in a fitness management position soon, so if you guys and girls stay in touch with me and you wish to work in Dubai I'd be happy to sort you out. It's always good to have a contact on the inside.

Thanks to all and go the distance!!

Personal Fitness Trainer (eta 2003)
Aerobics Instructor (eta 2003)

My name is Ariel Jacobson and I am currently Head of Fitness Department on the cruise ship MV ORIANA.

I qualified with eta in Cape Town in 2003 and, after working as a Personal Trainer in Cape Town for some years, I decided it was time for a change a bigger and better challenge.

I went for an interview with a man named Darryl Preston; owner of The Onboard Spa Company. We sat down for the interview and I was then offered a job; an experience in fact; prospects on a future filled with life of adventures and a world of experiences how could you say no?  I was told of quick advancement through the company which is all a young ambitious person needs.

Whilst doing my first contract I have been tasked with, and given the privilege of running the gymnasium. It is a great environment filled with international cliental where you are servicing every need from young and old to fit and the not so fit. Looking back at my job back home I was just a personal trainer wanting so much more; I have been given that opportunity and I have that now.

I get to write my own column and help to teach and inspire my fellow fitness colleagues onboard and hope one day he/she will grow to where I am and surpass even myself.

My day includes everything from doing YOGA and PILATES to seminars in great big theatres; armed with a PowerPoint presentation and a microphone where I command the attention of all. Personal Training, body Analysis and nutrition advice are a few of the other components that are required from us.

I now feel as if I am running a business and I am trying to gather as many tools as I can. They say what you learn in 6-months on the ships is equivalent to 10 years worth of experience on land.  I can look at myself now, 4-months into my first contract and already I have grown so much. Looking at all my colleagues and myself back home I have far surpassed them already as am now fully rounded in every facet of the industry.

This is a health tailored industry, designed for one purpose only; helping and educating those who are unable to do so themselves.  The company supplies constant tutelage as well as motivation and great contacts for resources.  You really do feel like one person can finally make the difference; one person can change the world.

I forgot to mention that you get to travel the world while making money.  You make amazing friendships and meet incredible people.  You can eat breakfast in a different part of the world every morning or find solace in the silence of the sea.  It is truly a place full of life and huge amounts of potential.  If you will it, it is your dream!

Dear Nicole

On behalf of Epilepsy South Africa Western Cape, I would like to thank you and your team for your invaluable support, contribution and participation in our Sandscapes event. Without the contribution of eta, this event would not have been a success; I have received only positive feedback regarding Sandscapes 2011 and a lot more interest. I’m sure going forward; it will only get bigger and better! It was pleasing to see the eta members show so much enthusiasm and interest.

The massages were quite the hit, and I hope that our working relationship will continue to grow. Sandscapes 2011 was a great success; all our targets and objectives have been met.

On behalf of everyone at Epilepsy South Africa, Western Cape, once again, many thanks and well done to your staff and I hope they had a good time. If you have any feedback or ideas for our future Sandscapes event, please don’t hesitate to let me know, as it is our aims to make Sandscapes an important event on the Cape Town events calendar. I hope moving forward, we could continue to partner up at Sandscapes, and further to add value to each other’s organization.

Images of the Sandscapes event will be loaded shortly onto our website and facebook pages respectively, please visit our website at www.epilepsyevents.org.za or become a friend of our Facebook page which is Epilepsy Events.

Kind regards
